Original and Counterfeit Injection for Weight Loss

United Kingdom: Illegal Market for weight-loss medicines remain a growing concern

October 2026 | Pharmaceuticals

A new investigation published by The Times examines the expanding illegal market for weight-loss injections, including products marketed as retatrutide. The report describes extensive enforcement activity against illegal manufacturing and distribution operations. The issue is particularly concerning because retatrutide has not been approved for general medical use in the United Kingdom.

Why this matters
When demand for pharmaceutical products increases rapidly, illegal suppliers may attempt to exploit consumer expectations before authorized products are even available.

In such situations, product appearance and online marketing cannot establish whether a medicine is legitimate, safe or correctly formulated.

Security perspective
For legitimate pharmaceutical supply chains, tamper-evident packaging, serialization and digital verification can support product authentication.

However, these measures must operate alongside regulatory controls, authorized distribution and appropriate pharmaceutical quality assurance.
