IMPROVING RECYCLABILITY AND SUPPORTING PPWR-READY PACKAGING CONCEPTS

CUSTOMER-SPECIFIC PARTIAL ADHESIVE COATINGS CREATE A POWERFUL COUNTERFEIT BARRIER

Securikett’s Structure Coating technology applies adhesive only where it is functionally required. This creates a highly effective security feature that is extremely difficult for counterfeiters to reproduce, while at the same time reducing adhesive consumption and improving recyclability. The result is a label construction that combines product protection, sustainability, and functional packaging design.

STRUCTURE COATING AS AN INTEGRATED SECURITY FEATURE

Unlike conventional label materials with full-surface adhesive layers, Securikett applies adhesives in precisely defined, customer-specific patterns. These patterns are developed individually and produced using proprietary coating technology that is not available on the open market.

Because the adhesive structure is part of the material architecture itself, the label becomes inherently difficult to analyze and replicate. Without access to the exact coating process and pattern design, counterfeiters cannot reproduce the material.

Structure Coating therefore acts as a built-in physical barrier against counterfeiting, directly integrated into the label construction.

VOID TECHNOLOGY COMBINED WITH STRUCTURE COATING

Structure Coating can be combined with Securikett’s proven VOID tamper-evident technology to create a multi-layer security concept.

When the label is removed or manipulated, a visible VOID message or pattern appears and cannot be reversed. At the same time, the structured adhesive zones themselves function as an additional protection mechanism within the label construction.

The combination of VOID effects, structured adhesive areas, controlled silicone release zones, and additional security features results in a highly secure, custom-engineered tamper-evident seal.

Flexible Material Choices for Different Packaging Types

Partially coated materials are available in several substrate variants, including paper, PET, and PP, allowing the construction to be adapted to different packaging requirements.

The labels can also be equipped with functional elements such as opening tabs, perforations for easy opening, or optional resealability features

STRUCTURE COATING COMBINED WITH WASH VOID TECHNOLOGY

Adhesive-free cut-outs can be printed with WashVOID ink to provide an additional security feature against tampering with liquids.

If tampering occurs and the product comes into contact with liquid, the ink dissolves and leaves a visible indication, helping to detect manipulation quickly and reliably.

REDUCED ADHESIVE AND IMPROVED WASH-OFF

SUSTAINABILITY AND PPWR COMPLIANCE

By leaving defined areas without adhesive, the overall adhesive consumption can be significantly reduced. The adhesive patterns create small “wash channels” that allow water to reach the interface between label and packaging more easily during recycling processes.

This improves label removability and supports more efficient recycling streams. Testing has shown that partially coated labels can detach more easily at temperatures around 45 °C compared to full-surface adhesive constructions.

The technology therefore supports PPWR-oriented packaging design while maintaining high product security.

SMART MULTI-FUNCTION LABELS FOR INNOVATIVE PACKAGING

By combining Structure Coating with additional technologies such as VOID effects, silicone coatings, and die-cut functional elements, Securikett creates multifunctional labels that go beyond traditional sealing applications.

These label constructions can integrate multiple packaging functions in a single component, including tamper evidence, ventilation, product visibility, and secure closure.

Instead of simply labeling a package, the label becomes an active functional element of the packaging design.

USE CASE: VENTILATED SECURITY SEAL FOR FRUIT PACKAGING

One example is the use of Structure Coating for plastic tray packaging in the fruit and vegetable sector.

The label can serve as a tamper-evident sealing element while integrating precisely placed ventilation holes. These openings allow air circulation inside the package, which is essential for fresh produce.

At the same time, the adhesive structure ensures that the tray is securely sealed while remaining easy to open for the consumer. The label can be applied using standard dispensing machines, enabling efficient industrial packaging processes.

This approach creates a new type of packaging solution that combines product protection, functionality, and recyclability in a single label construction.
